ORTLIEB bicycle bags – waterproof since 1982
In 1982, Hartmut Ortlieb founded ORTLIEB Sportartikel GmbH in Nuremberg. The invention of the first ORTLIEB pannier bag arose from the personal need to produce waterproof equipment for one's own use - because at that time there was none. The first ORTLIEB products were panniers and bicycle bags made of truck tarpaulin, sewn by hand and on mother's sewing machine, which Hartmut then tested with his friends on their own cycling and climbing tours. What began with simple means quickly developed into a success story.
Sustainability requires inventiveness
Hermetic closure systems such as roll closures, waterproof zippers, Velcro fasteners and sealing lips are characteristic of ORTLIEB. Numerous features are patented and continue to set new standards in the bicycle and outdoor market. The high-quality products with their inventive details are the result of the ideas of the multidisciplinary team, which always has its ear to the market and thus to the increasing demands of users. This means that innovations continue over the years and are regularly awarded top ratings by independent test committees, specialist editors and design agencies.
